Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

SEASON
Duration – 7 nights / 8 days

This is a short trek near Thimphu, passing through picturesque high mountains and lakes. The best months for this trek are April, September and October.

Day 1: Arrive Paro

The representative of Dragon Trekkers & Tours will receive you at the Paro International Airport. After the traditional welcome ceremony at a farmhouse nearby, you will be transferred to the hotel in Paro. Visit Paro town in the evening. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 2: Paro Sightseeing – Thimphu

In the morning visit Ta Dzong (the National Museum), Rinpung Dzong, Drukgyel Dzong and view the famous Taktsang monastery from the road. Also visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the two oldest temples of Bhutan, built in 7th century. Drive to Thimphu after lunch. Overnight halt in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing

Today you will spent the full day in Thimphu visiting Memorial Chorten, National Library, Tashichhodzong, handicrafts and weekly market. You will also visit the Institute of Zorig Chusum, the school for thirteen traditional arts and crafts.

Day 4: Thimphu – Genekha (14km 4 hours)

Drive for 45 minutes to reach starting point of the trek. The first day of the trek is on a mule path, and will end after four hours at Genekha Primary School. The trail passes through fields of rice terraces and coniferous forest. You will camp at Genekha near a stream at 2800m.

Day 5: Genekha – Gur (15km 4 hours)

Today’s trek is in communion with the nature as it starts with alpine flora and fauna. Two hours of gradual uphill walk and the rest of the route are through platform of huge rocks. Camp at Gur.

Day 6: Gur – Labatama (12 km 6/7 hours)

While in the way, one can enjoy the beauty of the mountain vegetation. Today’s trek is amidst flowers and wild asparagus (in spring). If the weather is clear, one can see the view of Dagala range. After lunch walk across the hills and ending the third day of the trek. Camp at an altitude of 4300 near Utso Lake.

Day 7: Labatama Halt

This day is for an excursion to any of the three lakes; Relitsho, Hentsho and Jamatsho. Overnight at camp

Day 8: Labatama – Panka (8km 4 hours)

Walk for 20th minutes up ward and later you will have majestic view of the Himalayan peaks. This point is around 4460m. Overnight in camp.

Day 9: Panka – Talikha (8km 4 hours)

The day entails the crossing of several passes, search for different verities of Blue puppy (June – July) and mountain birds. Then one trails leads to Talikha and another leads to Wangduephodrang. After lunch a hour’s gradual climb brings you to the tip of the last Dagala range from where views of Thimphu valley is spectacular. An hour’s walk and you are of the last camp, little above Talikha monastery. Overnight in camp.

Day 10: Welcome to Dragon Trakkers & Tours

Pass through alpine forest and mixed vegetation, one reaches to Talikha monastery and village. Then pass through mixed vegetation and apple orchards and reaches to motored road to Thimphu where your transport is waiting. Then the trek ends. Drive to Thimphu for lunch. Evening drive to Paro. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 11: Welcome to Dragon Trakkers & Tours

After breakfast drive to Paro Air port for the flight to another destination. The representatives of the company will see you off.
